Objective: Anganwadi is the basic unit of extending supplementary nutrition and early education services to all children and pregnant/lactating mother. These Anganwadis cover every habitation in the country and the entire set up is being overhauled to ensure that the designated services reach all beneficiaries.
Setting up new Anganwadi Centres
· To fill existing gap in anganwadi infrastructure, 4 lakh anganwadi centres are to be constructed by 2019, out of which construction of 1.14 lakh anganwadis has already been approved and started.
Toilet Facilities at Anganwadi Centres
· Number of anagnwadis with toilet facilities has increased from 6.9 lakhs to more than 8.5 lakhs over last three years.
Direct Benefit Transfer of salaries of Anganwadi Workers
· Process of Direct Transfer of salaries of anaganwadi workers/helpers into their accounts has already been taken up in many states and gradually 26 lakh anganwadi workers/helpers across the nation will benefit from this.
IT enabled system to ensure real time monitoring
• The delivery of services through Anganwadi is being put on to an IT platform which enables real time monitoring. 50,000 Anaganwadis have been equipped with smartphones with special software backbone as a pilot. This will be expanded to cover all 14 lakh anganwadis.
